There’s probably more than a few men who have perused a few online dating articles. Lots of men want to find love, but sometimes they can’t do so in their own backyard. Many of them turn to international dating, so they read the articles first so as to best prepare themselves.

But the thing about dating is that there are a lot of ways to do it wrong and a lot of those dating mistakes can be avoided. After all, avoiding mistakes is a great way to start fresh in a new relationship with a new woman.

Now, the thing about online dating is that it is not some magic bullet. Getting on a free online dating site is not some magic pill that is going to find you a love in an instant.

While online dating statistics can be encouraging to some extent, there’s no equation that is going to guarantee success. Failure is something that most people who are trying to find love will have to contend with. But there are a few ways to avoid those mistakes.

1. Doing It on Your Own

Lots of men try their hand at online dating. But a lot of them do it by themselves. They try their hand at chat rooms and all that stuff thinking virtual dating is easy to navigate

But the thing about going at it alone means being vulnerable. It means potentially falling prey to users who may not actually be actual women or even an actual person. Sometimes, a man can talk to a woman that is not a real person but is actually a whole team of people rotating in and out through shifts.

One great way to avoid that is by using a legitimate international dating site. Many legit sites take the time to verify that their users are actual people and are not bots that are just going to bleed money out of men desperate to find love.

2. Sunk Cost Fallacy

The sunk cost fallacy is a logical fallacy in which a person sticks to their argument not for any logical reason, but only because they have put so much effort into their argument that they are incapable of admitting that they are wrong.

In essence, it is when a person decides that they have gone too far and cannot turn back no matter how perilous the journey ahead is and how little the reward at the end is worth.

This happens a lot with romance. A person puts so much of their time and effort into a person that they cannot bear to leave and start over with someone new. This leads to a couple who gets married out of societal obligation as opposed to being in love.

This is a mistake that needs to be recognized, but recognizing it is not always easy. Recognizing this mistake takes a fair bit of introspection. This requires understanding that the person you’re with is not the person who is right for you and that trying to force the relationship is only going to end in misery.

Of course, recognizing this requires a bit of self-awareness. A lack of self-awareness can be a pretty worrying thing as far as red flags go.

3. Going Hard On Gifts

There’s a societal expectation placed upon men for people to buy gifts for their partners. This is no different in international dating. There is still expectation placed upon a person to get their partner a gift or two, particularly on special occasions or on dates that are significant to the two of them as a couple.

Now, some men go a little overboard when it comes to gifts and end up spending thousands of dollars for a single woman who may or may not be interested in them. Sure, giving gifts to a woman you’re dating internationally is all well and good.

But it should also be noted that shipping costs are probably going to drive the prices of sending gifts up. But many men buy gift after gift, either as a way to win the affection of a woman by buying it or to compensate for their lack of proximity by sending gifts.

Then there are the people who actively encourage this behavior because the gifts they receive are the endgame for them.

So if you’re going to take some dating advice, it is this; go easy on the gifts.

4. Moving Too Fast

Rushing into the relationship is not just a mistake when dating internationally, but a mistake in dating in general. But this is still a mistake that should be avoided.

Look, the impulse to speed things up is understandable; with an international courtship, especially when the barriers between two people are all the more dire. When you’re together, you want tangible evidence that the relationship is progressing because you may not be in a position to be together again in the near future.

So when you are together, there is a sense of urgency, almost like a looming deadline and you want to lock down the relationship while the opportunity is in your grasp.

But moving too fast can also make your partner uncomfortable, and can make her decide that maybe she should be with someone who can move closer to her speed.

5. Not Trying at All

By the biggest mistake that can be made while trying to find love is not trying at all. Look, it is scary, but the fear of failure cannot outweigh the regret of never trying at all.

People who just sit around and wish the day away do not get stuff done. But people who actually try may not succeed, but they do have a better chance than the people who do not even give it a go.

Love is a difficult thing to grasp and ascertain. It’s harder to find and even harder to keep. But dating becomes easier when the potential missteps are recognized before they can become a problem.

The challenges that come with international dating are not wholly unique to it, but there are special circumstances with regards to it and they can still be overcome like any other challenge.
